Thailand Expands Medical Tourism Program with Focus on Post-Surgery Recovery
Thailand has launched a new Medical Wellness Integration Program aimed at attracting international patients seeking not only surgical procedures but also holistic recovery experiences. The program combines hospital partnerships with specialized wellness resorts that provide nutrition counseling, physiotherapy, and mental health support.
The initiative comes as Thailand recorded 3.8 million medical tourists in 2024, generating revenues of nearly $7 billion. Authorities believe that positioning Thailand as a full-service recovery destination will strengthen its leadership in Asia’s competitive medical tourism sector.
“Patients are increasingly looking for destinations that go beyond treatment to offer long-term lifestyle support,” explained Dr. Chanin Prasert, Director of Thailand’s Health Tourism Council.
Industry insiders note that recovery-focused retreats are becoming a new profit driver, especially among patients from the Middle East and Europe. Analysts also expect cross-border insurance coverage to expand as more providers recognize the cost-effectiveness of bundled treatment-and-recovery packages.
